Foundation
Foundation Purpose
The purpose of the FAB is to support students and alumni:ae of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel (HGK Basel) by awarding scholarships, project funding and sponsorship prizes. Talented students in need shall be able to study at the HGK Basel through financial support.
Former students of the HGK Basel can also be supported through projects that serve career entry, professional exchange or continuing education.
In addition, it is possible to support and promote art and design projects that are important for the development of the HGK Basel.
Founders
The FAB was founded in May 2022 by the Tharice Foundation and the Cagliostro Foundation.
The FAB has also received support from the Laurenz Foundation and the Fondation Bénina, as well as from private individuals who do not wish to be named.

The Academy of Art and Design Basel FHNW
(Hochschule für Gestaltung Basel FHNW, HGK Basel)
Situated on the Dreispitz in Basel, the HGK Basel offers a creative environment for studies in the fields of art and design and their mediation. With around 1,000 students and staff, the HGK is a multi-faceted community that is moving into the future by exploring themes of digitality, materiality, diversity and sustainability.
Its teaching, research and continuing education focus on the relationships between art and design and gender, nature, technology and science, as well as on discourses of current social transformations.

Funding
Scholarships
The FAB awards scholarships to support the living costs in Switzerland of talented students of HGK Basel in need from Switzerland and abroad upon recommendation of a HGK Basel head of programme (“Studiengangleitung”).l
Applications for scholarships can be sent to info@fab-foundation.ch.
Please use the according Application Form and kindly ensure to include all requested information and documents.
Decisions regarding scholarships are generally made once a year by the Foundation Board in June for the next academic year. Deadline for scholarship applications is 10 June.
There is no legal entitlement to a scholarship, even if all the criteria for awarding a scholarship are met. The scope of the scholarship also depends on the financial resources available.
Projects
The FAB also supports former students of the HGK by funding projects that serve the purpose of career entry, professional exchange or continuing education upon the recommendation of a HGK Basel lecturer (“Dozierende”).
Applications for project funding can be sent to info@fab-foundation.ch at any time and must include the following documents:
- Project description, incl. cost overview
- letter of motivation
- curriculum vitae
- letter of recommendation from a lecturer at the HGK
Decisions regarding project funding are made once a year by the Foundation Board. Deadline for project funding applications is 10 November.
There is no legal entitlement to project funding, even if all the criteria for project funding are met. The scope of the project funding also depends on the financial resources available.

The FAB can grant awards from sponsors.

Previous funding
Since 2022, the FAB was able to support 31 art and design students from Ukraine, Iraq, Iran, Argentina, and Switzerland.
